Sting, "If You Love Somebody, Set Them Free"

  "If you love somebody,
  set them free

  You can't control
  an independent heart
Can't tear the one you love apart
  Forever conditioned
to believe that we can't live
  We can't live here
  and be happy with less
So many riches, so many souls
  Everything we see
  we want to possess [...]"

If You Love Somebody Set Them Free is the first single released from Sting's solo debut album "The Dream of the Blue Turtles" (1985). He said that he wrote the song as an "antidote" to the Police's 1983 song "Every  Breath You Take.

Sting (Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner) was born in Wallsend, Newcastle upon Tyne, England, on 2 October 1951). He is a musician, a singer-songwriter but also an activist and philanthropist. Prior to starting his solo career, he was the lead singer and bassist of the rock band The Police.
